Our vineyards
The uniqueness of our wines is a result of our vineyards, which are carefully nurtured by our partners. This work goes on throughout the year to ensure we produce a harvest with the oenological properties required to produce terroir wines.
Our vines grow on the undulating slopes of open, sunny valleys. The granite soils provide perfect drainage for the copious rainfall. The fertility of our vineyards is a result of the mineral properties of the soil. These peculiarities of the Alto Salnés area, coupled with an Atlantic micro-climate are readily appreciable in our wines.
Although we do have some more recently planted vines, an important part of our production comes from small plots planted with ungrafted rootstock; we can even boast of having old vines (centenarian and pre-phylloxera) which have been cloned via layering with no grafting used; this ensures greater genetic purity.
The vines are pergola-trained, and we employ some techniques that are culturally characteristic of Alto Salnés: late pruning, de-leafing and clearing shoots. The members of Viña Moraima see viticulture as an integrated process.
Our geographic location means that we have quite unique climatic conditions and this translates directly to our wines.
